Star Wars Movies in 2027: Starfighter & A New Hope
There are two different reasons to visit theaters for Star Wars in 2027: a limited anniversary return for the 1977 original and a new standalone feature.
| Date | Movie / source | Distributor | Director | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Feb 19Re-release · 1977 film | Walt Disney Studios | George Lucas | Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher | |
| May 28 | Walt Disney Studios | Shawn Levy | Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith |
A New Hope: February 19
Lucasfilm’s fiftieth-anniversary engagement uses a restored version of the original 1977 theatrical release. It is a re-release, so it should not be counted as a newly produced 2027 film.
Starfighter: May 28
Shawn Levy directs Ryan Gosling in an adventure set roughly five years after The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm describes new characters in a standalone story; Starfighter has not been announced as Episode X.
Will the anniversary release play everywhere?
The announcement describes a limited engagement. A national date does not guarantee a showtime at every cinema. Local theater listings will establish participating venues closer to release.
Where are the Disney+ series?
This page compares theatrical films. Television seasons have a different release format and are not mixed into the cinema calendar.
Schedule reviewed September 22, 2026. Future release plans can change.
